Experts have warned dog owners in the U.K. to take precautions and proper measures as the risk of Alabama rot disease has risen due to the wet weather as fall arrives. The disease can be fatal as it progresses rapidly. Moreover, it primarily affects the dog’s blood vessels and kidneys. Owners can expect a vet bill of around £800 for their pets’ treatment.

As reported by Mirror, Animal Friends Pet Insurance’s animal wellbeing specialist Catrin George said that the exact cause of the disease is yet to be known. They further stated, “Dogs may be at risk on autumn walks.” George added that the disease usually “spreads from wet, muddy and wooded areas.” The specialist continued, “Unfortunately, the only prevention advice from vets is to make sure to wash your dog following any wet and muddy walks.”

Alabama rot’s first symptoms generally include ulcers, lesions, or sores. They usually appear on the dog’s lower leg, face, and stomach. Within a few days, the dog can show signs of kidney damage and acute failure. This may be observed in phases as the canine may feel sick and there may be loss of appetite and fatigue. According to WIRED Magazine, the CEO and president of the Ark at JFK International Airport, Elizabeth Schuette, talked about how the change in rules reflects a deep cultural shift around pets in the U.S. She said, “There’s been a massive change over the past five or 10 years in the acceptability of pets in airplane cabins.”

In the meantime, several passengers have reported frustration and confusion with the new regulations. This is due to the slow adaptation of the policies for accommodating pets traveling on the plane. WIRED Magazine reported that the CDC has disclosed that the new rules are a response to the influx of dogs arriving in the United States with falsified or dubious rabies vaccination records. As reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the news release stated, “The beloved Hank, “The Ballpark Pup,” passed away earlier today.” Hank was a cherished member of the basketball club. The Brewers fans also loved the small white furry friend.

How Hank the dog became a cherished part of the Brewers family

The unofficial mascot and celebrated member of the Milwaukee Brewers family, Hank passed away recently. The dog had a massive impact in igniting the spirit of the basketball team, as per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. From the players to coaches to personnel, everybody in the team loved Hank.

As reported by MLB, on the morning of February 17, 2014, the dog first visited the Brewers during their Spring Training camp. He was covered in dirt and was also slightly injured. Soon after, he made himself at home and the basketball club gave him the name Hank, after one of the greatest basketball players, Hank Aaron.

The staff took care of the dog and Ed Sedar, the team’s coach, became his unofficial guardian. The cute dog promptly became friends with the players as well. However, the Brewers’ priority was to find the dog’s home. Despite extensive and multiple efforts, including local, national, and international coverage of Hank’s story, astoundingly, no one came forward to claim the Bichon Frise mix.

The Brewers then started working with the Wisconsin Humane Society. They arranged for Hank’s adoption and a team executive adopted him. Thus, Hank finally got a forever home. The dog’s popularity in Milwaukee grew with time. He was named “Dog of the Year” in January 2015, at the CW Network’s World Dog Awards in Los Angeles.

It goes without saying that Hank has lived a legendary life being a cherished part of the Brewers family.

The gray-colored Pit Bull is believed to have been abandoned in Connecticut. After giving birth, she separated from her puppies. On August 28, some residents found her alone in the Lincoln Street area in Waterbury. NBC Connecticut reported that the locals then started to look after the Pit Bull and gave her food and water. Soon after, a nonprofit animal rescue and advocacy organization, BARC CT, took the dog under their care. The organization then successfully reunited the abandoned mama dog with her five babies.

The clip begins with the mama dog walking towards a basket with five Pit Bull puppies, including two black-colored and three brown-colored pups. The mother first sniffs one of the brown puppies and then sniffs the rest. She expresses her happiness by wagging her tail. Her babies also become excited and try to crawl out of the basket just to be with their mama.

Thus, in an unfortunate turn of events, the dogs had to stay buried under the debris until firefighters rescued them a week later, as reported by USA Today.

Alaska couple reunites with lost dogs 7 days after landslide

As mentioned earlier, a married couple from Alaska, James and William Montiver, have reunited with their beloved pet dogs, Alani and Cassie, seven days after a landslide demolished their house. The disaster brought their house 47 feet down into the house of their neighbor, as per a Facebook post by Ketchikan Gateway Borough.

James Montiver made it out on his own, while first responders had to rescue Bill out of the house. However, they could not find the pet dogs Alani and Cassie. On Monday, September 2, AkDoT&PF geologist Travis Watkins heard the sound of whimpering from the rubble while assessing the area. Then emergency responders arrived at the scene. After evaluating the house’s stability, the Ketchikan Fire Department crew planned for entry.

Firefighter/EMT Jason Kynsi entered first and made way for Firefighter/EMT Crystal Schleiff. Crystal then got access to the dogs’ location and, after retrieving one of them, passed it to Firefighter/EMT Tyler Pendergrass. Firefighter/EMT Chuck Dodd went on to rescue the other dog, according to the Ketchikan Gateway Borough’s Facebook post.

Thus, Cassie and Alani were finally reunited with Bill and James. They then transported them to Island to Island Veterinary Clinic. As further stated in the post, James Montiver stated, “We are humbled and blessed that Cassie and Alani have been returned to us.” James continued by thanking the emergency responder and everyone who helped them reunite with their dogs.

As reported by Denverite, the heavily wounded canine, possibly an Australian Shepherd, has finally been captured and taken to the shelter for treatment.

In April 2024, Denver Animal Protection began its search for the dog, who was in custody but somehow escaped. The lead officer of the protection center, Jenna Humphreys, told the news outlet that on August 22, they received the news of the dog getting injured in the neighborhood of Athmar Park in Denver, Colorado, through a 911 dispatch call. From there, the extensive rescue mission commenced.

Dog shot in the face finally rescued after months

As mentioned earlier, a skittish street dog who reportedly suffered a gunshot in the face has finally been saved after a long and action-packed rescue. The previous week, Denver Animal Protection released a notice about the canine being seen in Denver’s Athmar Park. Soon, veteran pet advocate Sarah Luv-Garcia learned about it. Along with her friend, Karlee Arguello, she decided to go on a quest to capture the injured dog.

They ended up meeting a local woman, who informed them that the dog had visited her backyard and front yard. After getting permission, they went on to build a trap the size of a yard right behind the house of the neighborhood woman. They utilized 20 grating panels to create an aviary in the yard. After that, Sarah Luv-Garcia and Karlee Arguello baited the stray dog with squeezed cheese, rotisserie chicken, and more. Then, they put cameras in the place and closely monitored them from a nearby parked vehicle.

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 8:30 p.m., the dog finally made an appearance. As soon as they saw him in the right place, they captured him in the trap. When they slowly approached the canine, they could spot the round-shaped hole on his face. As reported by Denverite, Luv-Garcia described the dog as “sweet” and “gentle.” She said, “I saw how sweet he was. He was such a gentle dog that absolutely didn’t deserve that, and now he’s really safe.”

They called Denver Animal Protection after safely securing the dog. Then the center took him to the shelter. Now, as per the news outlet, the rescued dog is receiving treatment and getting better.

The ulcerated mass reportedly weighed about seven pounds.

After appearing at the Humane Society of Pinellas animal shelter, King had to undergo a complicated surgery. The process was a success, and the tumor was removed from the dog’s face. During his recovery period, King encountered a kind-hearted construction worker who went on to adopt him. Thus, the dog ended up having a new, loving home and family.

5-year-old shelter dog King has gotten a permanent loving family and home after a construction worker adopted him from the animal shelter Humane Society of Pinellas. According to the Miami Herald, when the dog came to the shelter, his condition was severe as he had a seven-pound heavy tumor on his face. The news outlet further reported that a spokesperson from the shelter, Peyton Davis, said, “It was 10% of his entire body weight…He could barely pick his head up. He could barely move around.”

After a “difficult” surgery, King finally got rid of the tumor. He also had heartworm disease and began receiving proper treatment for the same at the animal shelter. During this time, a construction worker met King and grew fond of him. At the time of meeting the shelter dog, he was working on a new adoption center project.

While talking about it, the Humane Society of Pinellas shelter wrote on social media, as per the Miami Herald, “Due to his heartworm treatment King had to be on leash walk only and our dedicated staff members would take him out on long walks and kept him entertained with lots of (enrichment).”
